Ice Works “4S” on ice curriculum

This 5-week skill session will be broken down into four sections, using the Ice Works “4S” on ice curriculum; skating, stickhandling, shooting and small area games!

The first section of every skill session will focus on power skating, developing a more powerful and explosive stride is essential in the development of any great hockey player. Player will become stronger and more fluent forward and backwards skaters during this training.

The second section will focus on mastering stickhandling maneuvers, teaching the players the proper wrist movements, and hand extensions while stick-handling with their heads up! Players will also work on puck protection, various deke moves as well as their passing and receiving skills. Training devices such as the “Speed Deke Trainer”, “Attack Triangles”, “Extreme Dangler Pro” and the “Give-n-Go” passer will be used to challenge the players during this period.

The third section will focus solely on developing a more powerful and accurate hockey shot! Our coaching staff will focus on a player’s weight transformation, hand placement, shoulder alignment and puck protection during this period. All four shots will be addressed (wrist, snap, slap and backhand) during the 5- week training session.

The last section players will engage in small area games. During these games, players will learn to develop a greater sense of vision, anticipation and wherewithal on the ice. Additionally, players will develop better puck handling skills under extreme pressure, improve their skating and their ability to escape opponents in confined spaces. Finally, players will increase their confidence during these mini games to become more impactful during regular season games.
